We proposed to NASA's Explorer Technology Program to design and build a star tracker. We were successful, and under this grant to the University of Wisconsin, we built a star tracker that was backward compatible with the Ball STRAP tracker used in the sounding rocket program.
Our proposal abstract is here.

A close-up of the Ball-style head. This has the same mechanical footprint as the Ball STRAP tracker currently being used.
