PRE-MAIN SEQUENCE STARS

Objects:
#3114 - HD 50138
#3120 - AB Aurigae (AB-Aur), HD31293
#3130 - HD 45677
UW Astronomer: Karen Bjorkman

This class of stars contains hot and cool young stars that are either pre-main sequence stars or stars that just arrived on the Zero Age Main Sequence (ZAMS) and are still surrounded by the dust and gas clouds from which they formed. The circumstellar envelopes of these objects are highly active dynamically, as evidenced by polarimetric variability in the optical and IR wavelengths.

The UV characteristics of these stars, recorded during the Astro-2 mission by WUPPE, should aid in understanding the processing of dust during star formation.
