OBJECT: NGC 2070
Other names: 30 Doradus, "Tarantula" Nebula
ID # 0502

UW Astronomer: Art Code

The Tarantula Nebula is a very bright gaseous nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a "satellite galaxy" of our Milky Way. It is bright enough to be visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy starlike object in the Southern Hemisphere.

NGC 2070 will be used by WUPPE as a bright background to shine through the very small apertures, the openings which allow light into the WUPPE spectropolarimeter. This process will allow an accurate determination of the aperture positions in case the vibration of launch has caused them to shift slightly.
