P Carinae is a Be star in the constellation of Carina (the ship's keel) in the Southern Hemisphere. It is about 4 times larger than the Sun, 3 times as hot, and 1,000 times as bright. It is about 300 light years away. It is thought to have a gaseous, disk-like shell of material around it, and it varies slightly in brightness.
