OBJECT: Lambda And (LAM-AND)
Other names: HD 222107
ID # 3513

UW Astronomer: Chris Anderson

Lam-And is a binary star system located about 80 light years away. The spectrum of its active chromosphere, the gaseous envelope surrounding it, shows sharp absorption lines and broad emission lines (most notably of Calcium, Ca), which may be due to large prominences. Lam-And's primary star is a subgiant, with a diameter 6 times that of our Sun and a luminosity 16 times that of our Sun.
